Orchard House Project “They not only met our expectations and demonstrated professionalism in every way, but they also went out of their way to work with our schedules and take extreme care of our delicate artifacts.” - Jan Turnquist, Executive Director
When Bronson Alcott moved to the circa 1690 Orchard House he began to make several changes implementing “transcendental” architecture. He relocated other buildings and attached them to the main building, removed structural columns, increased the ceiling height by lowering the floors, scabbed framing members together and so on. Murray Brothers worked with Architect David Hart, Preservationist Rick Detwiller of New England Landmarks and John Wathne of Structures North selectively removing finishes to expose structure, re-supporting the existing structure with both traditional and modern techniques and replicating and replacing finishes to include plaster, wallpaper, and siding.
